Filming the Camps
Film screening: “From Hollywood to Nuremberg: John Ford, Samuel Fuller, George Stevens” (pdf format)
The History Museum of Mobile will offer the exhibit, Filming the Camps: From Hollywood to Nuremberg, August 29, 2016 – January 16, 2017. The exhibit is on loan from Mémorial de la Shoah. It features the stories of three film directors—John Ford, Samuel Fuller, and George Stevens—as they documented Nazi atrocities during WWII. The exhibit includes 14 LCD screens which display footage shot at the concentration camps, as well as vignettes with the filmmakers who struggle to cope with the impact and meaning of the horrific scenes they encountered.

In conjunction with this exhibition, the Mémorial de la Shoah is organizing a free one-day workshop for teachers and educators: "Films and Archives of WWII and the Holocaust" on Saturday, September 24. Also, the movie, Filming the Camps: John Ford, Samuel Fuller, George Stevens will be screened on Saturday, September 24 at 7pm followed by questions and answers with Director, Christian Delage.
In connection with the exhibit, the Gulf Coast Center for Holocaust and Human Rights Education plans a number of educational activities. These include a Conference titled “The Holocaust in Memory and History” hosted by the Center for War and Memory at the University of South Alabama on September 7. The conference will begin at 9:00 AM at Seaman’s Bethel. Various local scholars will speak. This will be followed by a roundtable discussion in the afternoon session, 1:30-3:30. Keynote speaker will be Dr. Brad Prager beginning at 7:00 PM in the Faculty Club.
Additional activities featured are a lecture by Dr. Dan Puckett, Chair of the Alabama Holocaust Commission on October 18; a film series at Spring Hill College on selected Sunday afternoons; Roger Grunwald’s, The Mitzvah Project, on October 20; Matt Rozell’s, “Photographs from a Train Near Magdeburg” on October 24; and a lecture by Dr. Paul Bartrop on November 15.

Museum admission: Adults $10 and Children 13-17 $7.50
This exhibit is not recommended for children under 13.
Museum hours: Monday – Saturday 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM and Sunday 1:00 PM to 5:00 PM
