Gyotaku Fish Printing Workshop
November 23, 2024
10:00am - 12:00pm
Join the History Museum of Mobile's Education Department for a fun workshop - Gyotaku Fish Printing!
Gyotaku is the traditional Japanese art of fish printing. The art form dates to the mid-1800s and was once a way for fishermen to brag about the size of their catches. The process is literally what it sounds like: ink is applied to a fish which is then pressed onto paper.
In this hands-on workshop, participants will learn the art of gyotaku and make their own fish prints using replica fish. They will also get to go on a special guided tour of the Samurai: Sunrise, Sunset exhibition.
The price of the workshop is included in a regular admission ticket and is recommended for ages 7 and up. See admission prices here.
Space is limited. Please RSVP by calling Jennifer Theeck, Curator of Education, at 251-301-0270 or emailing her at theeckj@historymuseumofmobile.com.
